Alexis Oliva draws inspiration from the juxtaposition of traditional versus modern architecture, as an ever-changing reflection of our interaction with the cities we dwell, to create a body of work that explores the personal experience of self-forced change versus other-imposed prophecies of sameness.
The use of repetitive, straight lines serves as a metaphor for all things predetermined. Interweaving them creates forms and patterns that shift with one's current point of view, validating the individual right to growth and the redefinition of others' expectations of oneself.
