Works by Christian Aprile

I was born into a family of artists, mother a milliner and father a lithographer of Sicilian origin having created a number of advertising posters for major brands. My taste was formed by seeing these posters by great illustrators. I drew a lot from my youth and attended the Decorative Arts evening workshop, rue de Rivoli in Paris. After my secondary studies, I entered EPDI (Professional School of Industrial Design), Pub section, graduating in 1972: a renowned school then in the field of graphic arts and advertising. After a career in communication and graphics, I wanted to leave the computer and find my hands, the life of brushes, materials, smells, feel the taste of drawing, line... and paint the most diverse subjects. I like framed things, snapshots of pieces of life, lit windows, mystery in what is happening behind the windows, facades, foliage, the play of reflections... Hyperrealism suits me, with its masters Hopper, Hockney , Estes, Nathan Walsh, Kelley and also the sobriety, the simplification of shapes and colors of Nicolas de Staël, undoubtedly my favorite. I paint in Florida, where my works are exhibited and most of the time in Paris. I participate in various fairs in the Paris region and I received the 1st painting prize at La Frette-sur-Seine in October 2017 and the Van Gogh medal from the Monnaie de Paris, with my painting “Eden”.
