Edith Salle felt the need to paint, as an imperiously felt necessity for her. I seek to make our humanity and the simplicity of what surrounds us remarkable. She composes imaginary landscapes. Her starting point is a watercolor or pastel sketch, a memory, an image. She is walking away from it quickly. She tries to capture the emotion of a moment, the magic of what touched me, its light, its colour, its poetry... with sincerity. She observes people, she paints them mostly seen from behind, absorbed in their contemplation, in conversation, in connection. She seeks a balance between man trying to escape from a confusing world and a simple and soothing nature. She uses linen canvases that I stretch on frames to adapt the formats to my project. My raw material is colour. She paints with oils in thin layers. These glazes allows her to render deep shades, gradually. To allow drying, she has several paintings in progress.  She like this quote from Vincent Van Gogh: "Once again I let myself go to paint stars that are too big”.
