Franz Gertsch ( Mörigen , 8 March 1930 – Riggisberg , 21 December 2022 ) was a Swiss painter , known for creating hyper-realistic large-format portraits.

Between 1947 and 1952 he studied with Max von Mühlenen and Hans Schwarzenbach in Bern. In 1972, he took part in the Documenta 5 in Kassel with his painting "Medici". He became known for his realistic paintings and woodcuts. In 1999 he participated in the XLVIII International Art Exhibition in Venice . Some of his works are on display at the Kunstmuseum Bern .
