Hanneke Humphrey's painting process is intuitive, inspired by small moments, sensitive expressions, exquisite light and any sensation that catches his eye. Trying to capture the fleeting nature of things and an aesthetic balance is both a joyful and challenging experience.
He is in his element when there's expressive brushwork, harmonious color, transparency, and delicacy. Pieces that are not worked, which retain their spontaneity.
Although his career has taken place outside of art, seeing how an artist captures with his imagination a fragment of life on a canvas has always amazed him.
When he recently lived in Houston for five years, he was able to fully immerse himself in the art world. Being a guide in a fine arts museum and studying at the Glassell School of Art and the Art League have given him a lot, and he finally feels that he can assert himself as an artist.
Like most of us, he draws on his own experience. And his is that of a multicultural family that lives in many parts of the world. In all cases and in all places, he is guided by the beauty of the people and the ephemeral nature of it all.
