The artist initially studied industrial design before turning to free art. Löhr attracted attention in the 1980s with his “Book Circles” – pages of text cut into strips and draped on paper like a fan – and quickly became one of the most important representatives of “visual poetry”. In his pictures, objects and performances, Löhr dealt with the printed word, which he dismembered, deformed and placed in a new context like a collage.
