I also use ropes and chains which symbolize this modern slavery institutionalized in all levels of the population. I denounce excessive consumerism, which is rampant in today's world, the lack of freedom of expression of minors, whom I represent as gagged characters... Marc MAKALU NDOMBASI is a humanist and contemporary painter, born in Kinshasa on November 15, 1998. Passionate about art from a very young age. His paintings address the theme of the dehumanizing conditions of miners and the plundering of his country's natural resources. In his paintings he describes the illicit employment of young children in the mining and agricultural sectors. He draws a parallel between the disastrous and precarious working conditions of bare-handed diggers, close to modern slaves and the first European miners of the early industrial era, and that of air-conditioned and sanitized high-tech assembly workshops. Two diametrically opposed, watertight worlds. The artist uses histograms in the background of his creations, to symbolize the misinformation linked to statistics published by CAC 40 multinationals, and national and international authorities. A committed artist, MAKALU wishes to make us react, by presenting us with a militant painting devoid of aggression, through moving scenes from the daily life of these anonymous workers, represented in a sober manner (few colors), with an exclusive colorimetric focus on the the individual and his condition.
