Matjaž Krivic (1972) is a documentary photographer who is capturing the stories of places in poverty, in actuality rich with tradition and religious heritage. He documents important social events all over the globe, mainly regarding topics of ecology, globalisation and social inequality. He photographs in an intense, personal and aesthetically moving style that has won him several prestigious awards, such as overall winner at Travel Photographer of The Year awards in UK, 2nd place at Xposure Awards in the category Wildlife in UAE, 1st place at Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest in the People Category in USA, a nominator for Leica Oscar Barnack Awards in Germany and 3rd place at MIPA, Storytelling Category in Malta in 2020, 1st place at Direct Look – FotoDoc in Documentary Category in Russia in 2019, 1st place at MIPA, Portfolio in Malta, 2nd Place at Istanbul Photo Awards in the category Environment series in Turkey and a selection among finalists at Phillip Jones Griffiths Awards in UK in 2018, 1st place at Slovenia Press Photo in the category Environment series in Slovenia in 2017, 1st place at Palm Springs Photo Festival in the category Multimedia in USA in 2016, a selection among finalists at Elliot Erwitt Photo Grant in USA in 2016, 1st place at Slovenia Press Photo in the category People series in Slovenia in 2014, 1st place at Travel Photographer of the Year awards in the category Amazing Places in UK in 2010, winner of Geographical Photographer of the Year in the category Landscape and Judges Favourite Award at the Travel Photographer of the Year competition in UK in 2003, 1st place at the Geographical Photographer of the Year competition in UK in 2002, including World Press Photo in 2016 and Lensculture award in 2019, as well as winning the title of Travel Photographer of the Year several years in a row.
