Works by Patricia Viel

Her work revolves around the challenge of living in Patagonia: the distance between the center and the periphery, the climate, the geography and the politics of the place. In his work, which incorporates various techniques and formats, the territory as a specific site of expression and the ways of inhabiting it are central, not as conclusive instances, but as opportunities for significant and meaningful experiences, in which the ephemeral occupies a prominent place as a binding conceptual metaphor. From painting, Viel has expanded into other forms of expression such as video installation, video art, and photo performance, understanding these supports as effective ways of thinking about territory and the ways of inhabiting it as the axis of her production. She is an artist, curator, teacher and independent manager, where she tries to promote the regional scene by connecting artists from different parts of Patagonia.
Patricia Viel, since 2000 she lives and works in the province of Santa Cruz, between the city of Río Gallegos and the Tapi-Aike Ranch, where she is involved in the production of her work, cultural management and independent curating of contemporary art. As a teacher - a work she develops in different fields - she has participated in numerous art education projects. Her work revolves around the challenge of living in Patagonia, the distance between the center and the periphery, the climate, the geography and the politics of the place. After graduating from the National School of Fine Arts "Prilidiano Pueyrredón" (I.U.N.A.), she continued her training with art analysis clinics with different artists and theorists. She was a member of the Mamemimomu collective and since 2015 she has been part of the Magallánica project.
