Samar Mogharbel was born in Beirut in 1958, and was initially trained in ceramics under Dorothy Salhab Kazemi, before pursuing a postgraduate diploma in ceramics at Goldsmiths College, London. An instructor in ceramics at the Lebanese American University since 1983, Mogharbel has also been involved in the post-war excavations of downtown Beirut which greatly influenced much of her work.
