Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Silvana Soriano is a visual artist currently based in Miami, Florida. Soriano has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Brazil, Spain, France, USA and Cuba since 1984, including having her work featured at Pinta Miami Art Fair. She has also illustrated several books, spanning from children’s literature to poetry. Soriano graduated with a BFA in Art History and Art Education from Bennett University. She furthered her studies at the esteemed School of Visual Arts, in Brazil. Soriano has been an educator for over two decades, at public schools, non-profits, and universities.  Narrative is the main idea of her artwork. She likes to work in series, exploring stories, poems and/or brief sentences to understand what we can see that had not been said, what is behind the stories and to try to find out who owns these words. Her work has been driven by a desire to reveal an image with a strong poetic content, where the body is not only physical, but is also the way to represent personal speech. It can be sad that her work is a record of a precise moment that alludes to the poetry of the mind and the connotations that it takes on the body. Moreover, two elements play an important role in Soriano's work: the line and the gesture. She has been working with etching for many years and the line is always present in the printing. Even in the painting, the line is there to give the structure that determines the space.  Expressive gesture built strong lines that give movement and emotion to the composition.
