Thierry Chauvelot is one of the emerging artists on the Marseilles scene. He was born in 1972 in France. He began painting as a self-taught artist in 2012, following a course with Breton painter Joëlle Thibault. Since then, his work has been recognised through various exhibitions devoted to intimate themes, which are very close to his heart, as wild animals painted on large-format wooden panels, PopArt portraits of artists who inspire his life, and in recent years the city of Marseille. Thierry Chauvelot systematically lends himself to "action painting", a performance during which he paints a canvas in public in the space of an hour at most, with the aim of revealing his technique and the different stages in the construction of a work. It was during a recent visit to the Big Apple, that the idea of uniting New York and Marseille, two cities marked by migratory flows, was born. According to the artist, he works without any preliminary sketches, in order to create authentic and original canvases. With his paintings, he wants to invite the viewer to wander along the avenues of these cities, in the bold, metallic colours created as the knife moves across the canvas. He create these works, depicting these cities and their environment, because he wants the viewer to take hold of this universe, to take the time to enter it and imagine their own story. Briefly, it is an invitation to take an artistic and spiritual journey. Today, on his side, his reputation is growing. Thierry Chauvelot's works are surprisingly rich in colour and spontaneity.
