Thomas Popp (born 1961) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1982 to 1985 and then communication design at the FH- Munich.
Contrary to the then prevailing trend towards abstraction, he soon developed a figurative style strongly influenced by his idols Otto Dix and above all Max Beckmann.
In the meantime, Thomas Popp has long since found his own recognizable signature, which manifests itself in all his different subjects.
With his series "Bathers", "Big City and Pub Life", "Happy Animals" and "Arcadia", the artist refers to related themes from art and art history, but in the process works out his own completely unique interpretation and style.
He develops the motifs for his thematic cycles on the basis of countless on-site sketches as well as literary models.
Through the intensive examination of these themes, Thomas Popp now has an extensive body of work.
The artist has had numerous solo and group exhibitions, most recently his works were on display at ARTMUC in May 2022 and at ARTMUC in October 2022 in Munich.
