Zafer Kaymaz (°1968, Ankara, Turkey) is a painter. By applying abstraction, Kaymaz draws the viewer into an ongoing world of balance and the interval that expresses the flow of daily events. Moments that exist only to punctuate the human drama are depicted, in order to clarify our existence and find a poetic meaning in daily life.
His paintings are based on formal associations that open a unique poetic vein. Multi-layered images emerge, questioning the fragility and instability of our seemingly certain reality. By emphasizing aesthetics, he creates intensely personal moments masterfully created through rules and omissions, acceptance and rejection, and draws the viewer in circles.
The visual seductiveness and conciseness at the core of the exhibitions further complicates the perception of the various layers of meaning. By choosing mainly formal solutions, he tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, rely only on subjective associations and formal parallels, and encourage the viewer to make new personal associations.
His work takes on abstract forms by referencing a recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that the meaning changes and possible interpretation becomes more multifaceted. Zafer Kaymaz currently lives and works in Istanbul.
