Durrer's approach to painting involves a drastic simplification of forms and the use of unnatural colours, which intentionally deviate from realistic perceptions. This technique encourages viewers to engage with his work on a deeper, more introspective level, free from the constraints of external visual references.
1960 Basel, Switzerland
Born in 1960 in Basel, Andreas Durrer is a Swiss abstract painter. His work is characterised by a deep understanding of colour and form. In 1980 Andreas Durrer began his formal education in painting under the tutelage of Beppe Assenza, a notable figure in the art world. After completing his studies, he became an assistant to Beppe Assenza while also engaging in freelance artistic activities. The artist primarily uses canvas as the medium for his work, with acrylic as his main colour material. Durrer is adept at reproducing the subjective mood evoked by objects, as he transcends a cultivated "romanticism of simplicity", even in his more muted tones.
