Gabriel Borba has lived and worked in Embu das Artes, SP, since 1989. He graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (FAU USP) and transitioned to Fine Arts. In the early 1970s, he began experimenting with video art, becoming one of the pioneers of video art in Brazil. In 1979, he participated in the 10th Paris Biennale and, in 1981, the 16th São Paulo Biennale. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo (MAC USP), the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM SP), the São Paulo Cultural Center (CCSP), MoMA in New York, the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB), among other institutions. In addition to drawing, he has created artist's books, installations, and performances. He was actively involved in the experimental dynamics of the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo (MAC USP) during Walter Zanini’s tenure. He worked as an assistant to philosopher Vilém Flusser in the Theory of Communication department at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) in São Paulo. He taught Visual Arts at the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo (ECA USP) and also Visual Communication and Industrial Design at the Catholic University of Campinas (PUC Campinas), SP. In 1974, he was part of the founding group of the General Cooperative for Art Affairs and, in 1978, the São Paulo Plastic Artists Cooperative. Between 1984 and 2012, he served as Director of the Division of Fine Arts at the São Paulo Cultural Center (CCSP), cultural consultant at the Paulista Metropolitan Planning Company (EMPLASA), and also as Director of the Museography Division at the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo (MAC USP).
