Gabriele Basch (*1964 in Bad Homburg, Germany) studied painting at the Berlin University of the Arts. She consistently develops the cutout in terms of content and theme. Gabriele Basch belongs to the avant-garde of the art of cutting. By combining painting and paper cutting, she expands the boundaries of both silhouette and panel painting.
Gabriele Basch has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the scholarship of the Villa Massimo, Rome, the Berlin Senate for Istanbul, the scholarship of the Kunstfonds Bonn and the scholarships of the artist residencies Bleckede and Schloß Plüschow. Her paintings and paper cuts have been shown at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Contemporary Art Center Vilnius, the MARTa Herford, the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern, the Museum Moderner Kunst Kärnten, the Villa Massimo in Rome, the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken, the Altana Kunstsammlung and the Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden, among others. She has been a professor of painting at HAW Hamburg since 2012. Basch lives and works in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany.
