Hur Kyung-Ae was born in 1977 in Gwangju, South Korea. Since childhood, she has used art and color to express her feelings, and received early recognition for her talent. She obtained several degrees in visual arts in Korea, then her attraction for the French culture and language led her to continue her training in Paris, where she settled in January 2003. There, it is by experimenting with new artistic supports that she reinforces her preference for painting. She returns with a new inspiration: while scratching the pictorial layer of one of her canvases with a knife, she discovers a well-being and a vision which will mark a decisive point in her artistic production. She says she "awakened" to this meditative yet aggressive process of construction and reconstruction, which now draws much attention to her work. In 2011, Kyung-Ae had her first solo exhibition in Paris. Since then, she has been exhibited regularly and has participated in many exhibitions in Europe and Asia. She is attached to the young generation of the Dansaekhwa movement and is gaining more and more international recognition.
