"My drawings and paintings are records of materiality in the face of time’s passage and the inexorability of change. No matter how much we might wish it otherwise, time moves in only one direction and sweeps us along (or aside). My drawings of air conditioner vents show every dent and ding that has warped what was once a pristine and orderly surface. I am concerned with the specificity of cause and effect: I have drawn tinfoil and black plastic garbage bags to explore the unique behavior of each material as it is shaped by its history and reflects its present circumstances.
As long as we carry the markings of time, there is cause for celebration because we are still alive, still developing and participating. My paintings of gift bags consider our good fortunes, and the beauty and fascination in every surface."
