Acrylic and gold leaf on canvas
1960 , France
Passionate about drawing and painting from a very young age, Joëlle Darmon took up this art form in her teens. Creative, her pleasure of painting and drawing never leaves her. A self-taught artist, she refined her techniques with art teachers and painters in the Toulouse region where she lives.
At the beginning of her career, in 1980, she discovered and experimented with various techniques and styles, painting numerous subjects inspired in particular by nature.
She studied oil painting, watercolour, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, and worked on different supports and exhibited in the Haute-Garonne department and in Provence.
After university studies in languages and tourism, she worked in the field of communication. Her tastes became more refined in the 90s and more particularly in 1992, after the birth of her daughter who was a great source of inspiration and motivation for her. The artist then decided to favour the acrylic technique. She produced numerous paintings on the themes of the sea, flora, childhood, Provence and Africa.
Always in search of emotions through the colours that burst on her canvas, she mixes them with the material (sand, quartz, mediums, gels...) in order to give them more vibrations and relief.
Imbued with the works of great masters such as Cézanne, Matisse, Chagall, and inspired by her travels in Provence, and in the Mediterranean basin, colour, light, warmth and serenity spring from her canvases!
Today, with the experience she has acquired over the last few years, Joëlle Darmon has left her job in the field of childcare to devote herself entirely to painting.
Now a professional painter, she lets her imagination speak for itself by turning to the composition of half-abstract, half-figurative paintings.
Nature remains her main source of inspiration and she begins her new artistic life by honouring the colour blue through the depths of the seas and oceans. She still uses mixed media and adds to acrylics textures such as mortars, reactive paints, collages, inks, resin, clay and gold leaf.
The latter give the work that touch of light and emotion that invites you to travel and that is its signature.
