Acrylic on wood

1968 Madrid, Spain

A self-taught artist, he used to work with any available material, but now he makes most of his works with acrylic and graphite pigments, all on wood, to get an almost infinite range of broken colors and textures. His color palette is full of ochres, siennas and earth colors, but to express his more intimate feelings he usually prefers the wide range of the grey spectrum. Winter and sea landscapes, snowy and foggy, predominate in his works. They are mostly calm and serene paintings that invite reflection. His mysterious atmospheres give his work a poetic and evocative character that peaks in the denser layers. Always with a melancholic and nostalgic touch, his creations are largely inspired by travel or own experiences. His atmospheric landscapes show more than meets the eye, introducing us to his particular way of telling stories. His paintings go beyond of what is really perceptible, telling us that what is visible is plastic poetry of the invisible and spiritual. His landscapes are horizons of welcome and farewell, of complete solitude in nature. Juan José Vicente usually takes part in several many exhibitions and art fairs in Spain and abroad and he has been awarded several renowned Prizes.
