Monotypes on Cotton, Synthetic Organza, Glass Beads, Embroidered Details 12 × 24 in | 30.5 × 61 cm Unique work Includes a Certificate of Authenticity "Douse in Dissent," created for the We Got The Power exhibition at CAMP Gallery, draws from two dialogues in Lysistrata, focusing on the scene where the women confront the men after pouring water over their heads. This patchwork collage portrays seven powerful women standing against men who oppose their resistance. The number seven symbolizes Athena, the Greek goddess of war and city protection. In the play, the women gather water as the men threaten to burn them for their insolence. The blue transparent fabric beneath the women represents water, a unifying and healing force. The women, rendered in vibrant monoprinted fabrics, stand in contrast to the men, depicted as shadowy figures in shades of grey. Under their feet, a weaving motif signifies Lysistrata’s metaphor of navigating conflict as if she is unwinding her skein of yarn. As one woman pours water over the men’s representative, the water envelops him like a veil, symbolizing the diffusion of the women's ideals over the group of contesting men. This textile collage embodies the collective strength and unity of the women as they fight for their vision of peace My work should have arrived at the address given this afternoon. As previously stated in my email on Friday, I'm not sure what date to put as an end to the consignment agreement. Once that's clarified, I can send over the signed document.

1992 Houston, United States

Lauren Januhowski, born in 1992 in Houston (Texas), creates work that visually brings together autobiographical stories and accounts of the women around her. Each piece is composed of monotype-printed fabrics, assembled through sewing, embroidery or weaving. Januhowski's process is meticulously detailed, a ritual that ties her to the history of her American family’s sewing practices. Color plays a role in the perception of the emotions presented, while embroidery invites a more intentional and intimate look at the textile work. The layers of transparent fabric suggest physical as well as emotional depth. Throughout the allegories that make up her work, Januhowski gives a voice to the female characters she creates based on her daily life, intimate spaces, and discussions with women in her community. Through her projects, Lauren Januhowski aims to propose a complex and multifaceted image of the woman, like a patchwork quilt, while actively challenging the emotional and societal complications that we face together as women. Lauren Januhowski graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York's Cooper Union in 2015. After moving to France, Lauren attended the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 2018 and graduated in the "Printed Image" sector in 2020. Her work has been shown in multiple group exhibitions in galleries and art centers such as Galerie Treize-Dix, Magasins Généraux, Galerie Mansart, Galerie Christian Berst, La Grande Halle de La Villette, Art Basel in Basel, and most recently in a solo exhibition at Gallery BimBam.
