Artst Statement
I graduated from Musashino Art University Sculpture lab. and completed master’s degree program in sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts 2012.
I joined the biggest art fair (“ART FAIR TOKYO”) in Japan this March, then
I went to The “European Ceramic Work center ” in Netherlands from April 20 to June10.
About my work:
my latest artworks are called “Taxidermy” series,
I find taxidermy interesting especially when it is found in everyday environments where they seem to be less macabre. In my series "Taxidermy" I am trying to express a sense of altered cognition through changing the environment or the context. My animals all seem somehow alive but they are made to look bleeding. I also decorate them with wallpaper and carpet motifs.
The support of my sculpture is important for these series. It makes them look like they're on stage. Putting them on stage makes them look more objective if they are on stage like watching the tragic story in the theater.
I prefer to use ceramics rather than the real animals of taxidermy because of the way the material changes unexpectedly through the cooking process.
