Music Producer Mederic Nebinger or if you prefer, “Funky Derrick”, is revered as a pioneer of electronic music production in the early 90’s. In 1992, at the tender age of 18 and with already two singles on the independent French label Rave Age Records, Mederic Nebinger launches his own lab el “Pumpking Records” with producer friend Eric Chedeville . In a daring act to override the negatives of all major record companies that at the time didn’t foresee House Music to survive beyond the current summer, the new label owners battle in David vs. Goliath manner to produce and literally manufacture their own vinyls, and source distribution to launch their freshly baked tracks. Success comes beyond expectations when after only two releases by “Pumpking Records”, the world’s most famous Dj’s fight to buy their music. Their sound rapidly becomes an intrinsic part of the French House Music phenomena, soon referred to in music history as “French Touch”. In this realm, Funky Derrick’s friendship with Thomas Bangalter also leads him to contribute to the success of French House Music icons “Daft Punk”. After producing more than twenty albums with Pumpking Records, Nebinger ventures to New York in 1997, to establish a new label – “Deja Vous”- with his friend Damon Wild. He is soon noticed and signed up by MCA’s cult label “Twisted” to record a solo album: “Boogie Dawn.” The first single reaches Nº1 Sales on the “Billboard” charts. 2001 marks Funky Derricks return to Europe, where he engages in record production for labels like “Plastic City”, “Air Play”, “Serial Records”, “Sony Music” and “Europacorp” among others. Derrick is also responsible for remixes of artists like Cerrone, Daft Punk, Sixtine, Modjo or Holly Johnson and has recently co-signed the album for Zadig et Voltaire Music: “Sixtine” with Eric Chedeville. Currently Funky Derrick has also returned to the DJ stage, much enjoying his live performances which over the years have shaken the walls of such notorious cult clubs like New York’s Save The Robot or The Twilo, Le Rex Club, Man Ray or Queen in Paris and The Fabric in London, to name just some… Still, we must stay put… Funky Derrick has yet many surprises to unveil!
