Textiles, Sequins, Hand-Dyed Paper and Fabric, Sewn on Canvas. 12 × 24 in | 30.5 × 61 cm Unique work Includes a Certificate of Authenticity ‘Battling with Water, Fire, and Smoke’ contrasts the destructive forces of conflict—symbolized by the fire and smoke carried by the men—with the restorative power of peace, represented by the water shared by the women in Lysistrata. Growing up in Sinaloa, a region marked by conflict and instability, this subject hits home, touching the familiar yet normalized complexities of my upbringing. This personal context shapes my reflection on the values of peace, renewal, and the strength found in non-violent resistance. Through this artwork, I explore the power of collective unity to bring about change, drawing on the idea that even in the most turbulent environments, peace is possible when we come together. In our present world, I find these values are more urgent than ever, as we strive toward peace and unity for our shared well-being.
