Silk organza, inks, thread, markers, and paper 12 × 24 in | 30.5 × 61 cm Unique work Includes a Certificate of Authenticity Luminous Solidity draws inspiration from two remarkable historical figures: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and Jovita Idar. Both women worked tirelessly to transform their worlds through their voices and actions. Sor Juana's poem "Foolish Men" resonates just as powerfully today as it did four centuries ago, while Jovita Idar championed equal rights for all. Together, they embody strength, persistence, and passion—qualities inherent in every woman, yet often overshadowed by experience or a lack of encouragement. I hope that Luminous Solidity serves to rekindle that dormant power within you.

1972 Mexico City, Mexico

Like myself, my work is both layered and complex. My inspiration comes from experiences in my day-to-day life – both magnificent and mundane – filtered through the lens of my cultural background. My process is…not linear, often having several projects going simultaneously. Many of these works are portrait-style large-format thread paintings that blend various fibrous mediums and paint. Others are crafts and décor for the home. I even occasionally do props and full-scale set design for special events. No matter the project, the one underlying theme that gives life to them all is my desire to capture and reflect childhood wonder. A recovering accountant, Nancy Ofori is a 2nd-career artisan and teacher with an irrational preoccupation with fibrous materials. Her love affair with textiles and craft arts began very early, but she didn’t dare dream of being an artist as a kid. Born in Mexico City, Nancy was brought to this country (the country of her citizenship) when she was just eight years old. Being raised in relative poverty in South Central Los Angeles, she had no idea what it meant to be an artist – let alone to work as an artist. So, she was well into adulthood before she finally gave herself permission to discover her design through Creativity.
