Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, Preston Hanna is a young multi-talented, innovative artist whose passion is to inspire, motivate, and excite his audience through his vivid expressions of artwork. Over the years, Mr. Hanna has competed in several art competitions nationally and internationally. One of his significant achievements is winning the scholarship award from the Central Bank of the Bahamas to attend college. Additionally, he participated in various charitable events and art exhibitions. They would include Transforming spaces, the Rotary club, the Salus Project, Birthmark, Deltec Bank, and Interface, to name a few. He hosts and choreographed a live art and dance show entitled “Prestonism,” where he featured works under the theme “Coral of the reef.” Preston works day and night tirelessly, using his talents to give back to the community. On a weekday, he teaches art at a local high school, teaches at The Ministry of Education after-school art enrichment program, and does live paintings at various hotels at night. On his weekends, he also runs a sip & paint party experience.
One may ask, how did it all start? Why is he so inspired to give back to his community?
At an early age, Preston knew he was gifted. He always saw the world differently from his peers.
His true inspiration came from his creator, and one might say he allowed himself to be a vessel to deliver a divine message through his work. You would always find Preston sketching everywhere he goes with a sketchbook and pencil. This was how he was discovered in high school, but he never joined the art class; his passion was architecture. But that all changes when he meets a lady named Mrs. Illingworth. Mrs. Illingworth discovered Preston sketching his sketch pad one day in the office and immediately told him he needed to see her for art classes. Eventually, he joined the art class in grade 11. She opened Mr. Hanna’s eyes to a new path in life, and he has never changed it. He always needed to help others like him discover their path in life. Preston Hanna graduated from C.V. Bethel Senior High school and graduated from The College of The The Bahamas with Bachelor's in Art Education. He first taught art at St Andrew’s Primary School but later returned to his former high school. In a brief time, he was promoted to head house coordinator, assistant year head, and eventually promoted to head of the art department. Mr. Hanna is also the head instructor at the afternoon ministry of education art enrichment program.
Mr. Hanna’s artwork is very expressive with his use of color and the clever use of different mediums. He paints anything to express his elaborate ideas to give his audience a rich organic, meaningful feeling. His greatest inspiration is his mother, who passed away, to make her proud. His life motto is “work hard, dream big, and never give up.”
