In Sara Badr Schmidt’s work, the mirror and its reflections become the heart of a line of reasoning with a dual meaning. They represent reality in all its transformations, while inviting us to reflect on the value of time as it evaporates. In its double lexical sense, ‘Reflection’ lends itself to a duality of interpretation. In this way, the artist’s game multiplies perspectives ad infinitum and breaks down the boundary between truth and possibility, challenging temporal categories (past, present, future) and shuffling the cards on the table of sensory perceptions. (Chiara Gatti, critique d’art) Sara Badr Schmidt is a visual artist of Swedish and Lebanese origin living in Paris. The diversity of her background is reflected in her art, which focuses primarily on the question of cultural coexistence and the complexities of territorial identity. Seeking to provoke a dialogue, an emotion, with the observer, her works speak of connection, enrichment in diversity, interaction, both in their messages and in their forms, mixing different genres, materials and techniques. For Sara Badr Schmidt, art is directly inspired by life and the real world, modifies them and is, in turn, modified by them. Her textile compositions, installations, paintings and work in general reflect this vision, consciously translated in a poetic way to intuitively lead to personal reflection. Sara Badr Schmidt’s artistic practice fuses several techniques and media. Her creations combine images and texts, light and textures, sound and touch. She is interested in the coexistence of cultures, the unresolved complexities of territorial identity, the socio-political essence of place and the aspiration for peaceful cohabitation between peoples, transcending borders. Her projects challenge the conventional notion of borders while celebrating the enrichment that results from the interaction of different cultures. She offers a contemplative reflection on the impact of geographical borders and humanity’s complex relationship with the environment. Her works vividly illustrate the harsh reality and inherent absurdity of these boundaries, highlighting the limits of the human body in relation to its environment, prompting deep contemplation of one’s place and belonging. In a harmonious fusion of poetry and politics, Sara Badr Schmidt’s art strives to capture the complex dance between beauty and tragedy, offering a unique perspective on these fundamental aspects of human existence.
