Glass plate negative, giclée art print

1973 , Hungary

Tamás Dobos was born in 1973, in Hungary. He is a professional photographer, who currently lives in Cologne. He graduated from The Hungarian University of Theatre and Film, in 2009. Nowadays, he is still studying, in particular in Doctor of Liberal Arts (D.L.A.), at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) and Köln International School of Design (KISD). The main concept of his work is to portray the various layers of time, through characters who do not bear typical characteristics of any era, representing timelessness. With the help of the glass negative technique, he has the possibility to create the illusion of the past. On the other hand, if the viewers take a closer look, they can experience the presence of present and future as well. Hence, in Dobos' work, time does not have a linear structure or flows like a river, but it is ever-present. This method gives more space to the imagination. From his point of view, photography is a medium for processing past events, traumas, and answering ontological questions. Consequently, as a complementary technique, mirroring helps to deepen these images coming up to the surface from the artist's subconscious. One of his main motifs is twins, who are not only unique as biological phenomena, but can serve as manifestations of transcendence.
