Thomas Andréa Barbey graduated from the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris-Cergy in 2003 (DNSEP) and from the École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage de Versailles in 2009 (CESP). He joined the team of Glassbox, a gallery and artists' collective in Paris, from 2004 to 2007. He has also collaborated for several years with the landscape and urban planning agency TA KTY K, an agency awarded by the Ministry of Culture for its urban planning and architecture projects.
After several years of voluntary retreat from the artistic scene to find an elsewhere, Thomas Andréa Barbey puts his plastic work back into perspective by bringing into play this exterior of the landscape, an inexhaustible, open and stimulating field of research. He was an artist selected for the Salon de Montrouge in 2015 and resident at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris from 2016 to 2017.
In 2018, he won the 1% artistic competition for the new French high school Alexandre Yersin in Hanoi, Vietnam. He created a monumental set of large engraved lacquers punctuating the different spaces of the site, symbols of the cultural and friendly exchanges between Vietnam and France, through the imagery of postal stamps and monochrome painting.
