Wanda Stang lives and works in Berlin
Up to now, drawings serve the artist as the most effective medium to reflect her ideas. In the works of Wanda Stang, hand drawings particularly function as an important medium to capture her thoughts and visions. Their experimental character allows her to diversify between different levels of sensation, exploration and invention.
Wanda’s oeuvre engages with issues of observation, distance, sharing, and the boundaries between the private and public spheres. It includes works on paper and canvas, sometimes developed into three-dimensional works, objects and sculptures, site-specific installations, performance, and handmade clothing. Visionary ideas and the essence of Romanticism have exerted a strong impression on the artist. Her imaginative world made up by the fusion of dreams with reality offers a surreal space where new perspectives of thinking and creation are stimulated. Through her original style of creating, Wanda succeeds in building a deep connection with the observer and with numerous cultures of the world as her themes are based on stories of her friends or descriptions of journeys by people whom she met personally.
Wanda completed studies in painting and pedagogy for Waldorf schools as well as studies of Fine Arts in Baden-Württemberg. In 2014 she was a Meisterschüler at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art, where she graduated from classes of painting, textile and surface design. From 2006 to 2007 she was involved in the restoration work for the re-opening of the Neues Museum in Berlin. In 2011 her path led her to London, where she worked as a designer for Alexander McQueen. Back in Berlin, she participated in solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Netherlands and Hungary, p.e. at the Berlinische Galerie, Berlin/DE and Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle, Berlin/DE.
