Christopher Schade è nato ad Austin, in Texas, ed è cresciuto ad Austin e a Quirihue, in Cile. Schade ha conseguito il Bachelor of Arts in Art presso l'Università del Texas ad Austin in Plan II Honors Humanities and Studio Art in Painting e poi ha conseguito il Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking presso la Yale University. Dopo il diploma frequenta la Scuola di Pittura e Scultura Skowhegan.

Ha avuto mostre personali e personali presso The Painting Center di New York, Kai Matsumiya Gallery di New York, Boston Design Center di Boston, Massachusetts, dberman gallery di Austin, Texas e Conduit Gallery di Dallas, Texas. È uno dei fondatori della Artist Lecture Series a Greenpoint, Brooklyn e ha curato numerose mostre collettive, più recentemente "Prime Matter" al Teckningsmuseet (Museum of Drawings) di Laholm, in Svezia. Dal 2016 insegna pittura e disegno come Assistant Professor of Art presso l'University of Massachusetts Boston Art Department. Nella primavera del 2021 entra a far parte del The Painting Center di New York come membro.
