Fusako Ekuni is a Japanese abstract artist based in Tokyo, renowned for her contemplative works that explore the interplay of light and color. Born in Yokohama in 1947, she graduated from Musashino Art University and Musashino Gakuen, specializing in visual communication design and traditional Japanese painting. Over the past two decades, Ekuni has developed a distinctive technique involving the layering of pure dry pigments and glue onto washi paper mounted on wooden panels, creating meditative compositions that evoke a sense of slow, perpetual flow. Her acclaimed “Into the Light” series exemplifies this approach, drawing parallels to the works of James Turrell and Mark Rothko. Ekuni’s art has been exhibited internationally and is represented by Galerie Bruno Massa in Paris.
