Hussain Sharif (b. 1961, Dubai) is a pioneering Emirati artist and co-founder of the Emirates Fine Arts Society. After earning a degree in theatre design from the High Institute of Kuwait in 1986, he became Head Designer at Sharjah TV and soon began exhibiting across the UAE and internationally.

Sharif’s work challenges traditional materials and forms, embracing society’s rapid transformations through the use of recycled objects such as plastic bottles, cups, and metal cans. His art reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and experimentation, transforming discarded materials into powerful visual statements.

In his words, “The streets of our cities are teeming with materials… I find inspiration in breathing new life into discarded objects.” His recent retrospective at the Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi highlighted his enduring influence and visionary approach to contemporary art.
