Hello CAN Team, we are very excited about our new collaboration with such an innovative and super contemporary reality! Would you like to tell us more about how the project of Contemporary Art Now was born and about the reasons why you choose Ibiza as your "home"?
The project was really born in the summer of 2021 when I visited Rafa Macarrón's exhibition in the Nave de las Salinas. I saw that there was potential on the island and as we had already been doing our fair in Madrid for some time I thought it could be an opportunity to launch a new project on the island. For a long time it has been for me a very special place with which I have had contact at different times of my life but always a magical place to return to. After thinking about it I thought that mixing art and fun could be a good idea.
For five days, CAN brings together more than thirty galleries from the cutting edges contemporary art scene. How did you select the high-quality galleries participating in this first edition? What is the file rogue among these galleries and the artists they represent?
Our idea here in Ibiza is to mix business and pleasure. We want our fair to feel special, focused instead on the easygoing vibe of the Mediterranean lifestyle. The fair is by invitation only. Sasha Bogojev has been the curator in charge of the gallery section and together with them the selection of artists who have shown their work at the fair. Let's say that they are galleries from all over the world with an important international trajectory and that participate in the best international fairs during the rest of the year.
The Island gathered together an incredible amount of artists, art collectors, enthusiasts, and personalities. What are the main outcomes?
The fair CAN welcomed 36 galleries from 13 countries, with works priced between $1,500 and $200,000. The truth is that for a first edition, we have had a very good reception. Sales have gone very well and practically 80% of the works presented have been sold. Many galleries have sold out.
The fair has just ended and we are already looking forward to the next edition. Looking to the future, do you already have any ideas or developments for the next editions?
Our idea is always to keep improving and to be able to offer the best possible experience. We are sure there will be novelties.
