This year, JUSTMAD celebrates its fifteenth edition from the 7th to the 10th March at the Palacio Neptuno in the spanish capital Madrid. JUSTMAD it's one of the leading references within the emerging art scene in Spain. In this edition, the fair will showcase more than 120 artists and around 44 exhibitors, half of which will be participating for the first time. During the fair, prices and recognitions are given to the most outstanding artists and galleries. Moreover, it is the perfect environment to start collecting and approaching art, where to discover quality and criteria from the beginning and where to know every year the most prominent and interesting emerging Spanish and international artists.
JUSTMAD is a project of Too Many Friends & Art Fairs, Spanish companies that promote art fairs and cultural events. Since 2009. they have organized the fairs MADRIDFOTO (International Photography Fair 4 editions in Madrid), JUSTMADMIA (International Emerging Art Fair in Miami 1 edition), SUMMA (International Contemporary Art Fair 3 editions), JUSTMAD (International Contemporary Art Fair 14 editions) and JUSTLX in Lisbon (International Contemporary Art Fair in Lisbon 4 editions). JUSTMAD is directed by Óscar García, independent curator, cultural manager, founder of PAC Plataforma de Arte Contemporáneo and author of the book Dios salve el arte contemporáneo for Grupo Planeta.
JUSTMAD, also known as “a discovery space”, providing an effective locator of new values and projects. Its mission is to act as a springboard for galleries and artists. This is a special year for the fair, as they will celebrate contemporary cultures, with the present challenge of always being an open space for learning, supporting, and serving as a launch pad for both galleries and artists. Besides its general program, JUSTMAD is launching a new project: JUST Solo, a fair section curated by Maria Lightowler which will honour Latin America. This new initiative is shaped with artists and galleries linked to the region and scope of Latin America. Themes such as territory, media expansion, demopgraphics and politics are present in the works of the artists from Latin America.
Moreover, this year JUSTMAD also strengthens its artistic residency program in collaboration with RAS DE TERRA dedicated to research, experimentation and training of artists in the rural context. This year the artists who participated in the residency, Marco Pardo, Carlos G. Torrico y Carla Piacenza have rehabilitated a natural open field to recover it and bring other artistic projects to life. The aim is to create a new aesthetic model to benefit the future local economy and to enhance new creative initiatives and experiences.
The fair opens an accessible and lively space, for things to happen and be dynamic. It will host different installations, performances, talks and specific interventions that will complete and enforce the space of the Neptuno Palace with the mission of extending creativity beyond the galleries and to celebrate contemporary creations.
