photo basel has become a prominent photography fair, striving to include and combine galleries, young and renown, local and international, and create a hub for artistic photography within the cultural capital of Switzerland.

This art fair reaches its seventh edition in 2022, and since the inaugural edition in 2015, it has brought together galleries and art world communities in the all-important week of Art Basel.

This year Photo Basel welcomes 40 international exhibitors, from about 18 different countries, to exhibit 550 photographic works by 130 artists. The seventh edition, held at Volkshaus Basel (Rebgasse 12-14), includes an exciting program, considering both the past, present and future in the arts.

There is a special Exhibition, ‘Anita’s Point of View’, dedicated to gallerist and fine art photography dealer Anita Neugebauer (1916-2012) who, having founded Switzerland’s first photo gallery Photo Art Basel in 1976, devoted her life to the mediation of national and international photography. The exhibition at photo basel is a homage to pioneer and collector Anita Neugebauer and the key role she played in Swiss photography.

Further, photo basel x Benefit Edition aims at helping those affected by the war in Ukraine. For this cause, limited edition prints (in editions of 10) are available exclusively at the fair, numbered and signed on Hahnemühle paper.

“As a platform, we not only want to promote Peace, but we also want to help those who need to be supported. Over the past few years, we became friends with artists and gallerists from Ukraine and that is why we dedicate this photo basel x benefit edition to them.”

Also, the winners of the 2022 CAP Prize, Contemporary African Photography Prize awarded since 2012, are to be announced.

The innovative Swiss mobility think tank Rinspeed is to unveil a 3D NFT work. The one-off work is based on one of the most iconic and futuristic automobiles of all time – the Rinspeed sQuba concept car which dives underwater.

“Photography has established itself within museums and the art market in the last decade. During Art Basel week, we want to enhance and nourish the creative trade of all the major art players within and around Photography.”
