Skiascope arrives at this edition of JustMad with a proposal that directly engages with the core themes of JUST Latam: identity, multiculturalism, and the environmental crisis. In the exhibition Crossed Cartographies: Dialogues in Latin American Art, presented at Casa de América from February 27 to March 13, the gallery showcases works by Carla Piacenza and Patricia Viel, artists who explore the intersection of memory, territory, and nature.
Madrid once again becomes the epicenter of contemporary art with the celebration of JustMad, the international fair that champions innovation and artistic experimentation. Within this framework, the JUST Latam section reaffirms its commitment to the Latin American art scene, highlighting the participation of Skiascope+Valk Gallery, a space distinguished by its focus on cultural hybridity and the exploration of new artistic discourses.
Piacenza and Viel offer a reflection on the impact of human activity on the environment, using various mediums to highlight the tensions between the natural and the artificial. Their works are woven into a curatorial narrative that aims to generate a dialogue between cultural influences in Latin America and the urgent need to rethink the future from a sustainable perspective.

Dialogues and Debates: The Gallery at the Heart of the Discussion
Beyond the exhibition, Skiascope will also take part in the JUST Latam discussion panels. On Friday, February 28, at Casa de América, it will participate in the roundtable discussion "Scenes of Multiculturalism and Latin American Identity in Contemporary Art and Tensions with the Art Market", alongside other key figures in Latin American art. This discussion will address the challenges and opportunities faced by artists and galleries from the region in an increasingly globalized market.
Performance Curation: Art in Action
One of the most notable aspects of Skiascope’s participation in JustMad is its role in curating the performance cycle, alongside María Lightowler. At Madrid’s Palacio Neptuno, the gallery will be responsible for curating three performances that explore the body, sensory experiences, and the relationship between art and public space:
"La Matriz" by Aku Menditeguy (March 7, 6:00 PM) - An exploration of the body as a space for resistance and transformation.
"Architectures of the Invisible" by Rob Maldonado (March 8, 6:30 PM) - An intervention questioning the boundaries between the tangible and the ephemeral in urban experience.
"M·VERSE" by José Antonio Torres (March 9, 12:00 PM) - A performance linking technology and spirituality in the perception of the environment.

A Bridge Between Latin America and Europe
Skiascope’s participation in JustMad 2025 strengthens its role as a key platform for promoting Latin American art in the European context. Through exhibitions, discussions, and performances, the gallery not only presents works but also fosters a space for reflection and dialogue on the complex interactions between art, identity, and the environment.
With this edition, Skiascope reinforces its commitment to exploring new narratives and amplifying emerging and established voices in contemporary art, positioning Latin American art as an essential force in the global scene.
